Position Function

Provide health care and health related education to students at the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, a residential school for academically gifted 11th and 12th grade students, under the supervision and direction of the School Nurse Manager.

Minimum Education

Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;

Minimum Experience

Over three months of experience of utilizing the nursing process in practice within the scope of held license (LPN or RN).

Minimum Other
  • Current Indiana LPN license by date of employment.
  • Possess and maintain an Indiana driver's license and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
  • Computer literate.
Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Education

Preferred Experience

Broad experience of utilizing the nursing process within the scope of their license in a variety of settings (LPN or RN). Pediatric, mental health services and/or experience in a school setting.

Job Duty

Provide routine and emergency health care for the students of the Indiana Academy, responding appropriately to medical and mental health emergencies. Identify and prioritize student health needs using individualized, detailed assessment, practicing preventative care, intervention and referral as appropriate. Integrate caring, kindness, and advocacy into practice.

Coordinate and provide transportation for Indiana Academy students to and from health-related appointments as necessary, following the established transportation process, assisting students in the appointment or pharmacy process as needed. Communicate with pharmacies and coordinate with the nurse manager to collect insurance copay information, copay and medication refills as needed.

Maintain professional records using available technology appropriate to the work setting, practicing privacy and confidentiality of student health and educational information according to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.

Store, log, administer and record medication in compliance with the Indiana Academy Medication Policy and all applicable laws. Delegation (within the scope of their license), training and supervision of unlicensed assistive personnel in medication administration.
