Job Description:


Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $55,151

Reporting to the Senior Academic Advisor for Student Success, the Academic Success Advisor provides services and resources for students in order to support their success, both inside and outside the classroom. The academic success advisor coordinates intervention and brings together academic success resources for students that may be experiencing academic or personal obstacles to achieving their potential. In collaboration with key departments, faculty, staff, and community resources, the academic success advisor will prioritize a holistic approach to student success.

Responsibilities to include:
  • Advise and coach a diverse population of students in different stages of their academic careers
  • Advise students on college and university policies and procedures
  • Partner closely with academic advising offices to stay up-to-date on best practices in advising
  • Assist students in connecting with faculty on academic related issues
  • Consult and collaborate with various university services and resources to ensure each student has the necessary tools to succeed
  • Conduct outreach to high-risk students to promote early intervention and support
  • Assist the department in coordinating and implementing educational initiatives and collaborative activities that support the academic and personal success of students
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry tasks by inputting meeting notes and student appointments into computer systems
  • Participate in and seek out experiences of personal and professional growth through relevant trainings, workshops, and professional development opportunities
  • Assist with new student orientation programming
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information per FERPA regulations
This position will not be eligible for a partial/limited hybrid work location under the NYS, Binghamton University, and ITS-approved remote work location agreements.


Requirements:


Visa sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher)
  • Advising or success coaching experience
  • Experience using technology in higher education (i.e. Banner, Peoplesoft, CRMAdvise, Degree Works, etc.)
  • Ability to make independent decisions, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Enthusiasm for constantly evolving work environment and aptitude for learning new skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, writing and public speaking skills
  • Must be available to work occasional evening and weekend hours
Preferred:
  • 1-3 years of experience in academic advising, student success, or other student support area
  • Knowledge of current retention issues and strategies in Higher Education
