Department Summary:
The Department of Geography at Bridgewater State University consists of six full-time faculty, four part-time faculty and an administrative assistant. The department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching, research, applied geography and outreach. The department offers: B.S. in Geography with concentrations in Environmental Planning and Conservation, and Environmental Sustainability and Climate Resilience; B.A. in Geography with concentrations in Geography for Educators, and Sustainable Global Systems; minors in Geography, Geographic Information Systems, Urban Studies and Planning; and a post-graduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems.
The department has dedicated physical/human/geospatial classrooms and laboratories in the Dana Mohler-Faria Center for Science and Mathematics.

Essential Duties:
The Department of Geography at Bridgewater State University is accepting applications for a full-time, temporary, one (1) year faculty position, beginning in the Fall 2024 semester. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with expertise in physical geography. Expected courses include water resources, physical geography, geospatial science and suggestions for new course offerings related to the successful applicant’s area of expertise that support the department’s leadership role in the application of geospatial data to problems in sustainability and resilience. A commitment to teaching excellence that supports a diverse student body is essential.

This faculty member will help support the geography department’s growing undergraduate programs, a new graduate GIS certificate program, collaborations with other BSU programs, and high impact practices such as field work, undergraduate research, internships, and service-learning opportunities.

Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and service, as well as demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.



Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Geography or related field.




Preferred Qualifications:
PhD in Geography or related field.

Skills and experience in using technology to enhance teaching and learning.
