Department Summary:
The School of Social Work is accepting applications for a full-time, benefitted temporary (1 Year) position in the Childhood Studies program. We are seeking a lecturer and advisor with an interest and experience in online pedagogies. A terminal degree in the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, or Education and experience teaching are desired. A strong commitment to, and experience in interdisciplinary education and scholarship is desirable. Our program is offered to traditional day students and continuing studies students. Commitment to and experience of various forms of online teaching and learning and supporting student wellbeing is highly desirable. The position includes advising at least 40 students per semester.

Essential Duties:
· Teach the full-time equivalent of 4 Childhood Studies courses per semester.
· Use teaching methods to support the development of appropriate knowledge and skills through both in-person and digital (online and technology-enhanced) interactions.
· Use innovative and effective teaching and learning techniques and resources that support the development of appropriate knowledge and skills for CHST students. The essential concepts for CHST include:

  • Recognize the magnitude of global challenges facing children & childhood.
  • The history and routes into the field of Childhood Studies
  • Interdisciplinary research methods that include children as active participants.
  • Agency and Structure
  • Children as social actors
  • Comparing childhood to adulthood
  • Reflect on power and social justice.
  • Childism

· Collect information for program assessments.
· Contribute to the ongoing development, design, and enhancement of the curriculum of the Childhood Studies Major, in a manner that supports an interdisciplinary, innovative, and inclusive approach to student learning and satisfactory overall student experiences.
· To engage in scholarship and service that combines expertise in Childhood Studies with a focus on pedagogy.



Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree awarded in a relevant field of expertise/

Completion of appropriate training in and/or demonstrated engagement with equal opportunities, diversity, inclusion, and intercultural competencies.

Knowledge and understanding of subjects in the field of Childhood Studies, and the ability to connect this expertise to a range of disciplines and contexts.

Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proficient organizational skills.

Experience in teaching relevant subjects at the undergraduate level, with evidence of innovative, inclusive, and effective teaching, and ability to engage and inspire traditional and post-traditional students.




Preferred Qualifications:
A track record of scholarship focused on interdisciplinary studies and/or educational inquiry/scholarship of teaching and learning, appropriate to the career stage.

Interests and experience in interdisciplinary studies with a focus on the connections between different disciplines represented at Bridgewater State University,

Experience in designing and delivering online modules in Higher Education.

Experience in providing academic advice to students.

Experience with a variety of Higher Education assessment procedures and providing beneficial feedback.
