JOB DESCRIPTION
Assistants in Archives, Special Collections and Community (“ASCC”) perform a variety of duties working with the records and resources of Davidson College. Some of the duties include working on the arrangement and description of archival records in our online system, ArchivesSpace, organizing paper and artifact collections, digitizing materials, assisting with research questions and social media, and learning basic preservation techniques, shelving, and filing.

Duties: This position's duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist College Archivist to create and update finding aids for records of the College including maintaining and improving our online finding aid, ArchivesSpace.
- Perform cataloging and draft inventories of collections (training provided) using tools such as Google Drive and ArchivesSpace
- Assist College Archivist to review, rehouse, and organize records of the College
- Perform basic preservation activities including purchasing archival-safe supplies (training provided)
- Retrieve and re-shelve materials from various artifact, local history and archival collections
- Assist ASCC staff with social media such as the department blog, Around the D, Twitter and Instagram to promote newly available, newly described, or newly re-discovered materials among other topics
- Scan archival records and manuscript documents Please update information here!
- Interest in history, religion, archives, historical societies, and/or museums
- Willingness to learn the basics regarding archival records
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Photoshop) and introductory
- research methods.
- Knowledge of online platforms and the ability to use tools, such as Google Drive (Docs, Sheets
- and Slides) and social media
- Experience with an overhead scanner, preferred
- One year of college experience, preferred.
