This is primarily manual work performing various roadside maintenance tasks to assist the Public Works Division in providing safe, aesthetically pleasing roadways.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Performs Unskilled and Semi-skilled Tasks associated with Solid Waste, Transportation, Stormwater, or Right of Way Maintenance.
Performs assignments associated with other vehicle and equipment maintenance operation. Drives 4, 8, 12, and 16 yard trucks and operates other equipment such as tractors, rollers, et cetera, in the absence of the normal operator and for special projects as required. Drives crew truck hauling crew and materials to and from jobsite. Performs pre-trip inspection on all vehicles and equipment prior to placing them in service.
Completes paperwork. Completes bi-weekly timesheet recording hours worked, leave requests, et cetera. Completes vehicle accident reports and personal injury reports as required. Ensures that daily worksheets are completed accurately and turned in on time in the absence of the Crew Chief.
Performs other related duties as required: participates in the interview process. Periodically subject to on-call standby for emergencies. Temporary assignments to various work crews to perform non-routine work tasks. Supervise crew in absence of Crew Chief.
Stormwater
Operates and cares for various equipment such as chainsaws, vibroplate packers, blowers, weed-eaters, push mowers, pavement saws, jack hammers, et cetera, used in performing tasks. Uses and cares for various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and brooms, et cetera, associated with assigned tasks. Assists in gathering materials and equipment as needed in performing tasks. Fuels and services crew truck, other vehicles and small equipment as required. Stocks vehicle with required items such as ice, towels, wipes, bug spray, et cetera, as required. Performs job site safety by installing appropriate construction signage, using personal safety protection and flagging in accordance with Florida Department of Transportation Maintenance of Traffic Standards. Mixes and lays riprap, sandbags, block and brick, in the construction of headwalls, retaining walls, and bridge embankments, et cetera. Cuts bushes and trees and removes sediment by hand as required to maintain drainage systems. Lays sod, seed, and hay in ditches and on shoulders as needed for stabilization. Performs base repair in preparation for asphalt patching. Performs major and minor asphalt repairs. Perform pre-trip inspection on all vehicles and equipment prior to placing them in service.
Stormwater Maintenance
Cleans Stormwater facilities. Cuts weeds, cuts and chips small trees, bushes. Removes spoils and other debris. Completes written daily accounting of cleaning activities and equipment used.
Maintains Stormwater Facilities. Puts up erosion control devise. Repairs filters, headwalls, spillways, and fill lay sandbags. Performs mowing, weeding, raking, fertilizing, and mulching. Completes written daily accounting of maintenance activities and equipment used.
Operates medium equipment. Drives dump truck and crew trucks. Operates brush chipper. Assists in directing traffic for loading and unloading equipment. Assists in securing and unsecuring heavy equipment prior to and after transporting. Operates bush hog and small tractor.
Operates light equipment and uses non-power equipment. Operates power mower, power pruner, weed-eater, chainsaw, power auger, and concrete mixer. Uses sling blade, shovel, rake, bush axe, and post hole digger.
Maintain and repair equipment. Oils and greases mowers. Replaces mower and trailer tires, when necessary. Repairs light mechanical equipment. Fuels and oils dump trucks and crew trucks. Greases backhoe, priestman, chipper, and dragline.
Right-of-Way Management – Horticulture
Performs Unskilled and Semi-skilled Tasks Associated with Roadway, Right-of-Way, and Stormwater Maintenance Activities. Operates and cares for various equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, vibroplate packers, blowers, weedeaters, push mowers, pavement saws, jack hammers, etc., used in performing tasks. Uses and cares for various hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms etc., associated with assigned tasks. Assists in gathering materials and equipment as needed in performing tasks. Fuels and services crew truck, other vehicles and small equipment as required. Assists in making minor repairs. Stocks vehicle with required items such as ice, towel wipes, bug spray, etc., as required. Applies pesticides and herbicides. Pulls weeds by hand. Picks up trash and debris. Plants and hand waters trees and shrubs. Performs pre-trip inspection on all vehicles and equipment prior to placing them in service.

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMER CONTACT
Internal customer contact is made daily with coworkers and monthly scheduling repairs and procuring supplies with Fleet and Purchasing respectively. External customer contact is made with citizens who are adjacent to work sites to answer their questions or to direct them to appropriate contact.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
The employee may typically use equipment such as, but not limited to, car or light truck, crew cab, dump truck, low boy, farm tractor, chainsaws, vibrapackers, blowers, weed-eaters, mowers, pavement saws, and jack hammers.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work is performed outdoors. Work environmental factors typically include exposure to inclement weather conditions and various environmental factors, and exposure to insects and animals. Work requires extensive physical demands.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the use and care of hand tools. Knowledge of equipment safety. Knowledge of power tool operations and maintenance. Knowledge of components, parts, operating and maintenance requirements of the assigned equipment. Knowledge of proper tree pruning and removal techniques. Knowledge of asphalt repair techniques. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to read, write, and perform basic mathematics. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to work under various weather conditions. Ability to operate and service 4, 8, 12, and 16 yard dump trucks. Ability to operate and service tractors and other farm equipment. Ability to deal courteously with the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires completion of the eighth grade and six months of similar or related work experience. A high school diploma can substitute for the required experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
A valid Florida Driver's license and favorable driving record. Must possess or be able to obtain within 90 days a CDL Class "B" operator's license with an "N" endorsement as deemed appropriate for the position.
Some positions assigned to this class may require Florida Department of Transportation Maintenance of Traffic Certification, and IS-00700 and IS-00100 Incident Command System Training.
All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.
