Billing Department Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors, in person or over the phones
Provides telephone support to all patient inquiries with a positive and professional phone demeanor
Explains insurance benefits to patients, including insurance verifications, eligibility and collection of deductibles and co-pays
Verifies accuracy of billing data and revises errors.
Operates software system for billing, posting, and claims payment (Prepares and submits claims, posts payments, credits refunds, collects delinquent accounts, and generates financial reports)
Completes small balance write-offs per office policy
Maintains active in-house patient collections
Participates in recoupment, overpayment, and refund process.
Ensure proper referrals and verifies insurance eligibility day prior to appointments
Interacts with staff, clients, payer and other agencies to answer questions, obtain information, and resolve issues.
Monitors aging reports and take such steps as necessary to guarantee payment of claims.
Coordinates and collects necessary information from staff or payers for claim adjudication.
Recognizes problem accounts and assists in problem resolution.
Anticipates insurance trends and advises supervisor and/or providers of changes.
Participates in the training of new staff members as needed
Participates in chart opening and auditing processes as needed.
Attends and participates in payor meetings/seminars as needed.
Responsible for interacting professionally with doctors/facilities/patients/staff
Be a team player and assist with other tasks during downtime
Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
All employees are expected to remain at work during normal business hours (8 a.m.-12 p.m., 1 p.m. - 5p.m.) unless approved by CTSM management.
