Job Description:


Empire State University is currently seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services (State Title: Senior Staff Assistant) at one of our New York state locations. The selected incumbent shall possess prior experience providing leadership in career programing, career counseling, and online career platforms. The Assistant Director provides career programming and supports, manages the Career Hub, and develop and manage the Career Champions program. This position will report to the Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services within the division of Student Success.

The successful candidate will be committed to student success by supporting SUNY Empire students and ensuring they have information and access to local resources across the state. The Assistant Director of Career & Experiential Learning Services must be collaborative, independent, a self-starter, and able to work with diverse faculty, staff, and students.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Create and facilitate career development programs and events throughout the state while utilizing technology to distribute programs widely and encourage student participation.
  • Provide career programming for students and alumni related to job search tools, resources, and career readiness.
  • Manage Career Hub. publish/import articles, resources, events, and additional career content.
  • Meet with Deans and Department Chairs, and faculty to review and solicit feedback for content and resources for the Career Hub. Identify key faculty to collaborate with for career articles.
  • Develop and oversee a university-wide Career Champions program.
  • Track data trends and Career Hub analytics to make data-informed recommendations relevant to the Office of Career & Experiential Learning Services.
  • Meet with students to provide personalized career counseling and assist in identifying strengths, interests, and career exploration.
  • Assist in organizing location-based employer events and job fairs.
  • Review resumes and cover letters. Provide guidance on networking strategies, job search techniques, and interview preparation.

Requirements:


Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, human resources, or related fields.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant experience with career services, experiential learning, or employment counseling.
  • Evidence of innovative strategies and programs to enhance student success with experiential learning in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of labor market trends, job search strategies, and industry-specific requirements.
  • Evidence of relationship-building or project-management skills.
  • Evidence of ability to communicate, engage, and develop rapport with individuals of diverse cultural, social, and religious backgrounds and varied age, gender, and sexual orientation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Career Services experience in a higher education environment or Human Resources experience.
  • Experience with online learning environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.
  • Prior knowledge of and experience in working with bilingual and emergent bilingual learners, particularly in online settings.
  • Prior experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Special Information:
  • This position may involve occasional travel.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Additional Information:


Rank/Salary: SL3 / $65,000-$68,000, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
