Description
The Department of English at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time Tenured Associate Professor or Professor position in pre-1900 American literature. We are seeking a scholar of American literature and culture, inclusive of but not limited to the United States. We especially welcome applications from candidates whose research and teaching expertise includes the eras prior to the establishment of the United States, histories of imperialism and colonialism (including settler colonial studies), comparative ethnic studies, studies of race and diaspora, indigeneity, gender studies, material/visual culture, digital humanities, and/or environmental studies. The ideal candidate will also contribute to undergraduate and graduate course development in Native American, Latinx, and/or Asian American Literature.
The position requires a Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or related field, evidence of teaching experience, and a strong record of publications. The successful candidate will develop and maintain an active program of research and publication, create new courses relevant to their area(s) of expertise, and supervisegraduate studentresearch. They will have the opportunity to participate in the College of Arts and Sciences interdisciplinary programs in Latino/a and Mexican-American Studies (LMAS), Women's & Gender Studies (WGST), and Africana Studies (AFST). Texas A&M University is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a First-Gen Forward institution situated on the land of multiple Native nations, including the Tonkawa, Tawakoni, Hueco, Sana, Wichita, and Coahuiltecan peoples. With these ongoing histories in mind, the English Department is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity of the university community.
Texas A&M's English department is home to an undergraduate major and minor, minors in health humanities, professional writing and science fiction studies, and MA and PhD programs. Job responsibilities include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses; conducting and publishing creative and/or scholarly work; undertaking appropriate academic service on departmental, college, and university committees; and mentoring students from diverse cultural backgrounds. The normal teaching load is 2/2. Texas A&M is an American Association of Universities (AAU) institution and an Institutional Member of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity, and the department provides support for new faculty to participate in the NCFDD's Faculty Success Program and other workshops.

The position requires a Ph.D. in English, Comparative Literature, or related field, evidence of teaching experience, and a strong record of publications.
