THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Staff Nurse provides basic care within the school setting and manages the health services program for the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health of students and staff. This position works at three locations including Soulsville Charter School, Memphis Delta Prep and UTHSC Hub- Soulsville. This position assists in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to learning and promotes the prevention of illness and disabilities through early detection and correction of health problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or other agencies to promote needed treatment, secure information, and comply with legal requirements.
  2. Conducts programs and/or activities (e.g. in-service training, hearing, vision, color vision, immunization review, scoliosis, etc.) to ensure compliance with government-mandated requirements.
  3. Designs health maintenance plans to address students’ health needs and implements health care directions from parents and/or physicians.
  4. Interprets the health and development assessment to patients, teachers, administrators, and other professionals directly concerned with the student; serves as an advocate for students with identified health problems and concerns.
  5. Maintains health care plans, medical emergency cards, and immunization records of all site students; provides information required for intra-district transfer of records as needed.
  6. Monitors all student medications administered at school as prescribed by a physician.
  7. Completes referrals to students and parents/guardians requiring further medical attention; provides appropriate community resources of necessary services to assure continuity of health care and service.
  8. Prepares a variety of written materials to document activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information in compliance with state law.
  9. Responds to medical emergencies to address immediate safety concerns.
  10. Reports students with reportable contagious diseases to local public health authorities.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Registered Nurse (R.N.) (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of related experience. Must have a valid Driver’s License.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Registered Nurse, Current Tennessee nursing license. Must have current BLS certification. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to communicate with clinicians and reach out for assistance.
  • Ability to provide effective education and instruction to students, teachers, and patients.
  • Ability to assess the needs of patients and respond appropriately.
  • Ability to influence and coach individuals.
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual platforms.
  • Knowledge and experience working with diverse populations, specifically with varying socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent documentation skills.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
