Position Description

University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine has seven academic anesthesiologist positions available at the rank of Assistant Professor.  These positions are without tenure due to funding and are full-time or part-time, with an anticipated start date of July 2024 or thereafter.  Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.  The base salary range for these positions will be:  Assistant Professor $27,500 - $31,337 per month ($330,000 - $376,044 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University.  Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations.  Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through the UWP practice plan.  Compensation provided by the UWP practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.  For practitioners holding an appointment in the physicians practice plan, see the link for additional benefits that may be available at UWP:  https://faculty.uwmedicine.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/UWP-Benefits-Summary-for-recruitingef-edits-v3.pdf.  Duties of the position include the teaching of residents, fellows and medical students and training of clinical care team.  Successful candidates will work in one or more of the following anesthesia services:  general, cardiothoracic, critical care, obstetric, liver transplant and/or pain.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.

Qualifications

Must have MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent).  At the time of employment, must have a minimum of one-year fellowship training (or foreign equivalent) in cardiothoracic anesthesiology for cardiothoracic position, in critical care medicine for critical care position, in obstetric anesthesia for obstetric position, and in pain medicine for pain position.  Must be Board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in anesthesiology and obtain state of Washington medical licensure by start of appointment.  In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
