Position Summary and Responsibilities
The Department's Laboratory Coordinator supports traditional and computer instruction labs, associated field trips, and specimen collections. This temporary position has an anticipated start date of August 5, 2024 with an end date of July 31, 2025. The temporary Laboratory Coordinator position is benefit eligible.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain equipment and assist in preparation, set-up, and cleanup of lab exercises. Includes technical work to curate the rock, mineral, fossil and map teaching collections, returning specimens to cabinets after use and reordering specimens as needed.
  • Maintain rock cutting, thin sectioning and other related sample preparation apparatus.
  • Assists with specimens and exhibits related to the museum collection.
  • Help maintain computer labs, both teaching and research, making minor repairs to computer systems and accessories; maintain printers, troubleshoot reported issues and report major problems to CIS.
  • Keep inventory of lab and field equipment, order replacement missing or replacement equipment as needed, arrange for repair or servicing of equipment, and check out articles to students.
  • Make logistical arrangements, drive for, and participate in lab fieldwork, and occasional all day and weekend field trips.
  • Provide work direction to student employees.
  • Maintain a relationship with Facilities Operations for building issues, chemical and fire safety.
  • Assist Administrative Assistant in organizing departmental functions.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Qualifications
Required
  • Associates degree with emphasis in Earth Science or equivalent.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and able to perform a wide variety of exacting work well despite interruptions.
  • Must maintain a professional, problem solving demeanor and the ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple, competing priorities.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and work well in a team environment.


Preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience in maintaining computers and equipment in a research or instructional environment.
  • Knowledge of basic computer programs, and graphics .
