Director of Forensic Services, CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
The Department of Psychiatry, Yale School of Medicine, is recruiting a forensic psychiatrist for an appointment at the Associate/ Professor level, for a position as Director of Forensic Services in the Office of the Commissioner, CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS).
The successful candidate will manage public sector forensic services provided by the DMHAS Division of Forensic Services (DFS) and will report to the DMHAS Medical Director.
The Principal Responsibilities of the position include: supervision and monitoring of all DMHAS forensic programs addressing evaluation of competency to stand trial, mental health diversion from the criminal justice system, re-entry to the community from the Department of Correction and from the Whiting Forensic Hospital, and the care of insanity acquittees under the supervision of the Psychiatric Security Review Board; supervision of the budget for DFS; program development of services to improve care of forensic clients and the functioning of the forensic service system; development of statutory amendments to improve care of forensic clients and the functioning of the forensic service system; review of legislative proposals affecting the criminal justice/forensic systems; representing DMHAS on multiple inter-agency committees, commissions, and task forces related to the intersection of criminal justice/law and mental health; supervision of Yale and State employees working in the forensic system; attendance and participation in all required meetings; engaging in the teaching and supervision of Yale Psychiatry Residents and Yale Forensic Psychiatry Fellows; conducting program evaluation and research of DFS programs; and engaging in scholarship related to these activities.
Candidates must be legally employable and have a minimum of 5 years' experience in forensic psychiatry, including public sector forensic psychiatry and the interface with correctional psychiatry, and demonstrated managerial abilities. The primary clinical work assignment will be the CT DMHAS.
