Reports to:   Laboratory Manager

Purpose:       Prepare and perform precious metals analysis on materials with special emphasis on instrumental work to ensure accuracy and reproducibility of results, to support the operation of a metal refinery.   

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze multiple sample streams using wet chemistry, precipitation, and fusion techniques to determine metal content in conjunction with various spectroscopic of gravimetric methods
  • Operation of analytical instrumentation: ICP-OES, XRF, and Carbon/Sulfur analyzers
  • Perform necessary maintenance and minor repairs on laboratory instruments, including the preparation of calibration standards and reagent solutions
  • Assist in the preparation and competency of standardized laboratory procedures
  • Analyze and complete reports of daily production samples
  • Prepare samples for metal determination using fire assay techniques and the preparation of fusion flux
  • Purity assay of final products for precious metals
  • Maintain cleanliness of laboratory and work areas
  • Participate in monthly safety meetings, emphasize the importance of safety relating to equipment, procedures, and materials handling
  • As necessary, mentor technicians and fellow employees in proper and alternate laboratory techniques
  • Perform all necessary tasks as assigned by management.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in the physical sciences
  • 1-5yrs work experience in a laboratory
  • Experience within a metal laboratory, ISO9001 and ISO17025 a plus
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to transport 5-15 gallon containers of liquids
  • Must be able to organize workload efficiently
  • May require long periods of standing
  • Ability to work independently and experience in resolving issues
  • Must be able to work well with others and be able to receive directions as needed
